Office 2008 for Mac is the name of the upcoming Microsoft Office suite being developed by Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit which will supersede Office 2004 For Mac . It is scheduled for release in mid- January 2008 .1 OVERVIEW Office 2008 for Mac was originally slated for release in the second half of 2007 , however it has been delayed until January 2008 , citing the need to "fix lingering bugs".23 Office 2008 will be the first version supplied as a Universal Binary (and one of the last major commercial Mac OS X applications to make the transition). This has required a change from the legacy CodeWarrior IDE to Apple's Xcode , contributing to its delays in shipping. Unlike Office 2007 For Windows , Microsoft is not planning to offer Office 2008 as a public Beta before its scheduled release date.4 FEATURES Office 2008 for Mac is expected to include the same core programs currently included with Office 2004 for Mac: Entourage 2008, Excel 2008, Powerpoint 2008 and Word 2008. However the new release will not feature Virtual PC as it is now no longer in development.5 Mac-only features announced to be included are a publishing layout view, which offers functionality similar to Microsoft Publisher for Windows, a "Ledger Sheet mode" in Excel to ease financial tasks, and a "My Day" application offering a quick way to view the day's events.6 Office 2008 will support the new Office Open XML format; however, it has also been announced that Microsoft Visual Basic For Applications will not be supported in this version.
