New York State Route 79 is a west-east New York State Route that starts in the Finger Lakes region, runs through Central New York and ends on the western fringes of the Catskills . Its eastern terminus is located at the Pennsylvania State Line in The Town Of Windsor in Broome County . Its western terminus is located at its junction with NY-414 at the southern end of Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen . It is signed east-west, but from Whitney Point to the state line it runs in a north-south orientation. From the PA border to The Town Of Colesville , NY-79 runs along the western bank of the Susquehanna River . Between Chenango Forks and Whitney Point , it runs along the eastern bank of the Tioughnioga River . In Broome County it goes through Ouaquaga , originally a large Iroquois village which was destroyed by the Continental Army in 1778. Communities along its route include the villages of Windsor , Whitney Point, Lisle , Burdett , and Watkins Glen , as well as The City Of Ithaca . MAJOR INTERSECTIONS
