In 1986, WCCW withdrew from the NWA and changed their name to "World Class Wrestling Association", while still promoting under the WCCW banner. The title became the WCWA Texas Heavyweight Championship at this time. In 1991, the title became the '''USWA Texas Heavyweight Championship''' in the United States Wrestling Association when WCCW merged into the USWA. It reverted back to the WCCW Texas Heavyweight Championship in 1993 (after USWA and WCCW split) and became the GWF Texas Heavyweight Championship in the Global Wrestling Federation in 1994. It reverted back to the WCCW Texas Title in 1997 and was briefly the '''CWA Texas Heavyweight Championship''' in 1997.
