Minnesota . It is 125-miles in length.
For part of its route (9-miles), it runs together with
Minnesota Highway 18 in
Aitkin and
Mille Lacs counties around the northeast side of
Mille Lacs Lake .
Highway 47 also runs together with
U.S. Highway 10 for 8-miles in
Anoka and
Coon Rapids (from Ferry Street in Anoka to Foley Boulevard in Coon Rapids).
The northern terminus for Minnesota 47 is its intersection with
U.S. Highway 169 in
Aitkin in east-central Minnesota.
The southern terminus for Minnesota 47 is its intersection with
Minnesota Highway 65 (Central Avenue) in northeast
Minneapolis .
Highway 47 is also known as ''"University Avenue"'' from its junction with
Highway 610 (at the
Coon Rapids /
Blaine boundary line) to its southern terminus in northeast
Minneapolis at Central Avenue.
''"University Avenue"'' further extends itself into
Saint Paul (as Ramsey County Road 34), ending at Lafayette Road. This section of ''"University Avenue"'' passes by landmarks such as the
University Of Minnesota and
Minnesota State Capitol .
Highway 47 was originally an extension of
Minnesota Highway 56 , which ran from southern Minnesota to
Hampton and then was
Duplexed with
U.S. Highway 52 into downtown
Saint Paul ; then along University Avenue in both Saint Paul and
Minneapolis . In
1963 , Highway 56 was terminated in downtown Saint Paul and the section from Minneapolis north to
Aitkin was renumbered Highway 47.
