Michael Joseph Copps is currently one of two Democratic United States FCC commissioners. He strongly opposes media-ownership deregulation. Prior to joining the government service, Copps was a Professor of history at Loyola University . He obtained his B.A. from Wofford College in 1963, where he was elected to Pi Gamma Mu international honor society in the social sciences, and to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1968, he completed his Ph.D. from the University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill .
