With his tuxedo and famous Catchphrase " Let's Get Ready To Rumble! ", the six-foot tall Philadelphia native has become one of the most recognized faces in the world of sports entertainment thanks to his 20 plus years of announcing many of the biggest championship boxing events. In addition to being his personal catchphrase, "Let's get ready to rumble!" is a registered Trademark in the United States and appears on the platinum selling album called "Jock Jams" by Tommy Boy Records. He has used variations of this phrase in numerous video games and commercials. He appeared in a commercial for Mega Millions and he says "Let's Get Ready To Win Big!", but then rips his face off to reveal the lottery spokesperson. Buffer is currently the announcer for all the HBO and RTL ( Germany ) boxing fights, where he announces each fighter in his distinct voice, often rolling his "r"'s, or adding other inflections for a fighters name. He appeared as the ring announcer for the fight between Rocky Balboa and Mason "The Line" Dixon in the film '' Rocky Balboa ''. He is also the host of Versus ' boxing retro show Legends of the Ring. Has a son, Matthew Buffer (also known as Matt Nasty), who is a tattoo artist in Quakertown, Pa. ANNOUNCING WRESTLING Until 2001 , when the former wrestling organization WCW existed, Buffer was the WCW-exclusive ring announcer for main-events, especially when Hulk Hogan or other top WCW talent wrestled. That was because WCW's former parent company Time Warner owned through their Pay-per-view subscription division HBO , the premier boxing broadcaster in the United States. But when the WCW ceased to exist, and Time Warner had no more affiliation with professional wrestling, Buffer could announce in other wrestling promotions. On August 18 2007 , for the first time in more than 6 years, Buffer returned to ring announcing duties at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event at Madison Square Garden in a boxing match between pro-boxer Evander Holyfield (who was substituting for Montel Vontavious Porter ) and pro-wrestler Matt Hardy . OTHER APPEARANCES Buffer makes appearances at corporate events and will use his catchphrase. Announcing runs in the family; his half-brother Bruce Buffer is an announcer for the UFC . PROCEDURE This what Buffer commonly said in his introduction to the Main Events. "Welcome to tonight's Main Event!" If there is title at stake: "Tonight's bout is for the (name of title) of the world." "Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages: Are you ready?! Then, for the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching at home. Let's get ready to rumble!" Then would introduce the participants. Buffer often extends words for drama purposes such as: world, ready, and rumble. EXTERNAL LINKS |
