The Medical Council of India is a constitutional body in India set up primarily to establish uniform standards of higher qualifications in Medicine and to grant recognition of medical qualifications in India and abroad. HISTORY The Medical Council of India was set up in 1934 under the Indian Medical Council Act , 1933 . But with the phenomenal growth of medical education in India after independence, it was felt that the provision of Indian Medical Council Act were not adequate to meet the new challenges. Thus the Indian Medical Council Act, 1933 was repealed and and a new act, Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 was enacted. This later act was further amended in 1964, 1993 and last in 2001. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Indian Medical Council as per the Act are as follows.
