Martin County is a County located in the U.S. State of Minnesota . As of 2000, the population was 21,802. There were 9,800 housing units at an average density of 5/km&2 (14/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 97.22% White , 0.25% Black or African American , 0.10% Native American , 0.42% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 1.26% from Other Races , and 0.73% from two or more races. 1.93% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 51.6% were of German , 11.9% Norwegian , 5.9% Swedish and 5.0% English ancestry according to Census 2000 . There were 9,067 households out of which 29.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.60% were Married Couples living together, 7.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.30% were non-families. 30.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.92. In the county the population was spread out with 24.80% under the age of 18, 6.40% from 18 to 24, 24.90% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 19.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.50 males. The median income for a household in the county was $34,810, and the median income for a family was $44,541. Males had a median income of $30,467 versus $21,780 for females.
