Information About

Msdn Library

MORE INFORMATION

Each edition of MSDN Library can only be accessed with one help viewer, which is integrated with the ''then current'' single version or sometimes two versions of Visual Studio . Visual Studio Express editions have their respective "express" editions of the MSDN Library. In addition, each new version of Visual Studio does not work with an earlier version of MSDN. Therefore, a compatible MSDN Library is released for each new version of Visual Studio so that developers can still use the earlier MSDN Library for older versions of Visual Studio, and immediate updated documentation is available for the newer version of Visual Studio until a next updated quarterly edition of MSDN is released which would be compatible with both versions of Visual Studio. Finally, as newer versions of Visual Studio are released, newer editions of the MSDN Library do not integrate with and do not include documentation for older versions of Visual Studio and are installed side-by-side, that is, both, the older as well as the newer version of the MSDN Library can co-exist.

VERSIONS

  • The October 2001 MSDN Library was the last version to include documentation for and integrate with Visual Studio 6.0.

  • The January 2006 MSDN Library was the last version to include documentation for and integrate with Visual Studio .NET 2003.

  • All subsequent newer versions of the MSDN Library integrate only with Visual Studio 2005.
