Lordaeron

Lordaeron is a fictional nation in Blizzard Entertainment 's '' Warcraft '' series. The name Lordaeron also refers to the continent which the nation inhabits and the name of Battle.net Gateway for Western United States .

Early in human history, the Empire of Arathor splintered into seven autonomous nations; Lordaeron being one of them.

In '''', Anduin Lothar of Azeroth led his refugees to Lordaeron after his defeat by the orcs, where he met with Terenas Menethil , King of Lordaeron. With the leaders of the other human nations, the dwarves of Khaz Modan , and the high elves of Quel'thalas , they formed the Alliance of Lordaeron to combat the orcs. The Alliance was ultimately victorious and managed not only to repel the invasion of Lordaeron but also reclaim the kingdom of Azeroth .

In '''' the Lich King's servant Kel'Thuzad released the plague of undeath which affected all of Lordaeron. After Terenas' son Arthas was driven mad by the Lich King , he took the cursed blade Frostmourne and murdered his father, becoming king of Lordaeron and putting it in the hands of the Undead Scourge .

When the Burning Legion 's pawn army the Undead Scourge flowed into Lordaeron, they destroyed most of the nation-state, and slaughtered most of the populace by means of warfare and plague. The survivors who had not fallen to the plague sailed west to Kalimdor with Jaina Proudmoore , under the advice of Medivh the fallen Guardian; these survivors created the eastern Kalimdor coastal hub of Theramore Isle.

When King Arthas left for Northrend , he left Kel'Thuzad in charge of the kingdom. But the splinter group known as the Forsaken , led by the banshee Sylvanas Windrunner , took over small portions of it, defeating the Dreadlords , as well as the Alliance forces that remained. Lordaeron is now a rotting, undead land.

After Sylvanas allied the Forsaken with Thrall , parts of Lordaeron are now Horde territory. Notable locations include the Ruins of Lordaeron, under which is now the Undercity of the Forsaken, several Scarlet Crusade posts (including The Scarlet Monastery ), the Bulwark, the magical state of Dalaran , Lordamere Lake, and Silverpine Forest.

Lordaeron was the second strongest nation in military power until the Orcish Horde devastated the southern nation of Azeroth. In Warcraft II and its expansion, Lordaeron was represented by the color white.

It is ironic that the state of Lordaeron is now crippled, while Azeroth has a vibrant human community. In World of Warcraft, however, hope remains for a human state in Lordaeron. All that remains of the once-grand empire is the southern region of Hillsbrad, Prywood Village and Theramor Island, controlled by the survivors of Lordaeron. Nearby Dalaran has begun rebuilding and is engaged in a war with undead forces in the Silverpine forest. Human rogue forces occupy Andorhal and other regions of Lordaeron. However, these associations, of which the Scarlet Crusade and the Argent Dawn are the most prominent, have no ties to the alliance.

In '' World Of Warcraft '', the Coat Of Arms of Lordaeron has become the Coat of Arms of the Alliance .
