Hulme (similar to the German Heim) is a common element in local placenames, meaning Village or Settlement. The typical older housing of Levenshulme consists of terraced houses with wide back entries. In fact, Levy's cyberculture is rapidly growing and demonstrates that the area is embracing a 21st century lifestyle in a thriving mixed-culture environment. Despite these traits, the modern Levenshulme is still considered to be one of the most deprived areas of Manchester, and regeneration efforts are underway to address this problem. 1 The community radio station All FM is based in Levenshulme.
