Lars Erik Frederiksen (born '''Lars Erik Dapello''' in Campbell, California on August 30 , 1971 ) is a Guitarist and Vocalist for the Punk Rock band Rancid , and the frontman of Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards , he is also notable as a producer having worked with the Dropkick Murphys , Agnostic Front , Union 13 , The Gadjits , Pressure Point , and The Business . He joined Rancid in 1993 after the band was searching for a second guitar player and was present on their second album '' Let's Go ''. Lars' surname was originally Dapello after his father, who abandoned his family at a young age so he took his mother's maiden name, Frederiksen. Lars had an older brother named Robert who died in the early 2000's from an aneurysm, the song "Otherside" by Rancid was written in memory of his older brother. Another memorial of his about his friend Ben Zanotto can be found in the self-titled song, Ben was also a member of Lars' gang SKUNX. PERSONAL LIFE Family & Background Frederiksen is half-. The song "Otherside" by Rancid was written in memory of his older brother Robert. His mother came to the US as an immigrant, barely able to speak English and with very little money. Lars father, John Dapello abandoned the family when Lars was just 4 years old. Life was a constant struggle for Minna and she worked two jobs to try to support her two sons, Lars and his older brother Robert. However seeing his mother struggle gave birth to his survival instincts for later in life and surely helped to instill that working class punk rock ethic. His first introduction to music was by his brother Robert, who was four years older than him. SKUNX Lars Frederksen has "SKUNX" tattooed on his forehead. Skunx is a crew that Lars belonged too, led by a homosexual punk who Lars got his first punk record from. SKUNX stands for skins punx and drunx. Lars inherited the gang when he was sixteen, around the same time he picked up a guitar. He also has many other tattoos, covering him from head to foot, including the Hell-Cat records tattoo all hell-cat artists have. He is also a member of US THUGS Marriage Lars' was previously married to long time friend Megan but in 2001 he returned home from a tour with the Bastards to find his wife of 3 years had packed her bags and left him. A lot of reference to Lars' heartbreak can be found in the second Lars Frederiksen & the Bastards record 'The Viking'. After the divorce Lars decided he would not ever marry again and said in an interview he was so down he went around sleeping with various prostitutes, which can also be seen in the Viking record. Lars did remarry in February 2007 to yoga teacher Stephanie Snyder. They are expecting their first son in September 2007. MUSICAL HISTORY Prior to Rancid, Lars played in one of his favorite all time bands, the UK Subs for a 30 date UK tour in 1991. He left shortly after the tour, complaining of the Subs disorganization. He still keeps in touch with the Subs' lead singer and only original member Charlie Harper , whom he says is like a father to him. Lars has also played with longtime pal Gordy Carbone in SLIP and The Knowhere Men . Carbone was also "The Unknown Bastard", on Lars Frederiksen and The Bastards' self-titled LP debut, released on Hellcat Records in 2001. On their second release, "Viking", in 2004, he (Carbone) gave up his identity.
