Rochester, Minnesota and
Austin, Minnesota . Its transmitter is located near
St. Ansgar, Iowa . It currently broadcasts the
My Network TV prime time schedule after CBS's late night block is complete.
The station signed on for the first time on
May 15 ,
1954 as KGLO-TV, owned by
Lee Enterprises along with the ''
Globe Gazette '' newspaper and KGLO radio (AM 1300 and FM 101.1). On the station's first day on the air, signals were reported as far away as
Gary, Indiana . The station was affiliated with both
CBS and
DuMont until 1956, when DuMont ceased operations.

In the 1970s, the
FCC with only a few exceptions, barred common ownership of radio and television stations in the same market. KGLO-TV was thus sold to B-Y Communications in
1977 and renamed KIMT. In
1980 , KIMT was sold to the Shott family of
Bluefield, West Virginia . However, in
1984 , the Shotts sold KIMT and
WBTW in
Florence, South Carolina to Spartan Communications, giving KIMT its third owner in eight years. Spartan merged with KIMT's current owner,
Media General in
1997 .
On ,
2006 ,
New Vision Television , LLC announced it had bought KIMT and sister station
WIAT in
Birmingham, Alabama for $35 million. NVT's acquisition of the two stations was finalized on
October 12 2006 .

Early on the morning of
June 27 ,
1995 , KIMT news anchor
Jodi Huisentruit was abducted outside her apartment while on her way to work. Huisentruit was never found and the case was never solved.
