He married Rose Ellen Walsh (deceased). They had three children: Dorothy (born 1900), Grace (born 1906) and John (born 1916) all deceased. Burley is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia . He is a brother of Frederick R Burley, founder of Berlei Bras BURLEY AND FOOTBALL HISTORY Joseph was very much involved in the development and promotion of the Australian Rules Football game in Western Australia. Amongst many philanthropic activities he sponsored a tour of Tasmania by the East Perth Football Club in the 1930's.
