John Oates (born '''John William Oates''' on April 7 , 1949 in Philadelphia ) is an American Musician and Producer best known as one half of the successful Rock and Soul duo Hall & Oates . BACKGROUND John Oates was raised in North Wales, PA , and attended North Penn High School in suburban Philadelphia . He is married to Aimee Oates, and his son Tanner John Oates was born on June 19 , 1996 . John Oates is of Italian descent on his mother's side and Spanish-Moorish on his father's side. In 1985 , Oates co-wrote and produced the single "Love Is Fire" by Canadian pop group Parachute Club , which was performed as a duet between Oates and Parachute Club lead singer Lorraine Segato . The song became a top 40 hit in Canada, and Oates also produced several other tracks on the band's album ''Small Victories''. He also co-wrote " Electric Blue ", a hit single by Icehouse , with Iva Davies . Despite 30 years as a chart-topping performer and sought after producer, he did not release a solo album until 2002 's '' Phunk Shui ''. Oates took part, along with Jamie Cullum , in the song "Greatest Mistake" by Handsome Boy Modeling School . The song appears on the 2004 album '' White People ''. RELEASES
