Japanese Corvette Hiei (1877)




The ''Hiei'' (比叡) was an 1878 armored corvette of the Imperial Japanese Navy . She was designed by Edward James Reed and built in Great Britain .

She was delivered to Japan by a British crew, with the future admiral Togo Heihachiro onboard, who had just completed 6 years of study in Great Britain.

History: Damaged in the Battle of Yalu River (1894). Served on Surveying Duties until 1 April, 1911 when she was stricken from the lists.
