HISTORY Jacinto City incorporated in 1947 with nearly 3,800 residents {Link without Title} . Jacinto City was known for the murder of Louis "Buddy" Musso by Susan (or Suzanne) "Sue" Basso in 1998 {Link without Title} . Musso's corpse was dumped in neighboring Galena Park . GEOGRAPHY Jacinto City is located at (29.765527, -95.240332). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 4.8 Km&2 (1.9 Mi&2 ), all land. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 10,302 people, 2,947 households, and 2,392 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 2,138.5/km&2 (5,540.8/mi&2). There were 3,124 housing units at an average density of 648.5/km&2 (1,680.2/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 68.18% White , 1.23% African American , 0.89% Native American , 0.23% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 25.66% from Other Races , and 3.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 75.39% of the population. There were 2,947 households out of which 48.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.3% were Married Couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.8% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.45 and the average family size was 3.88. In the city the population was spread out with 33.3% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males. The median income for a household in the city was $34,672, and the median income for a family was $36,755. Males had a median income of $30,323 versus $22,224 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $11,292. About 16.1% of families and 15.8% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 15.9% of those under age 18 and 14.2% of those age 65 or over. GOVERNMENT Jacinto City practices a City Manager form of government with an elected Mayor who presides over the City Council. Federal and state representation Jacinto City is within Texas's 29th Congressional District . EDUCATION Areas south of Market Street are zoned to Galena Park Independent School District while areas north of Market Street are zoned to Houston Independent School District .
