__NOTOC__
is a season five episode of the FOX animated Television Series '' Family Guy ''. The title is a parody of Hillary Clinton ’s book, '' It Takes A Village ''. MSNBC newscaster Keith Olbermann , a fan of ''Family Guy'', is a guest voice in this episode playing the voice of Bob Grossbeard.
The Griffin family is vacationing at Quagmire ’s cabin. While there, the family goes swimming in Lake Quahog, but something in the water causes all their hair to fall out. They see that the Quahog Oil Refinery is dumping Toxic Waste into the lake. Lois complains to Mayor Adam West , who admits that he sanctioned the dumping in exchange for free oil for his hair. Outraged, Lois decides to run against West in the upcoming mayoral election.
Though clearly more intelligent than her opponent, Lois’ campaign falters as Mayor West proves more politically savvy than she is—while Lois bores voters with detailed plans to improve the city, Mayor West garners support simply by avoiding answering questions and acting in a patronizing manner. Brian , observing that “undecided voters are the biggest idiots on the planet,” advises Lois to Dumb Down her campaign. She soon discovers that she can generate support merely by dropping controversial terms such as “ Jesus ” and “ Terrorists ” in meaningless ways, and by answering questions about her policy plans only by saying “ 9/11 .” She wins the election, and continues to use fear tactics to raise funds for cleaning up the lake. Local residents living near the lake, including mass murderer Jason Voorhees , are proud of this.
After the cleanup is completed, Lois has cash remaining, and Embezzle s $600 to purchase a new purse, much to Brian's Chagrin , who scolds her for spending taxpayers' money in such a way. Later, at the Britches and Hoses store, she is tempted to buy a $4,300 fur coat, and Bob Grossbeard, the president of Quahog Oil, offers to buy it for Lois if she will allow him to resume dumping into the lake. Lois reluctantly accepts the bribe and the waste flows again. As the lake is once again spoiled, Lois realizes how power has corrupted her, shuts down the waste, and resigns as mayor. Adam West declares himself to be mayor again, despite the fact that, as one onlooker points out, there is no legal justification for him to do that. West pulls a gun and shoots the objector. He then shoots two more whom he believes objects.
- The title of this episode is also the title of a new ''Family Guy'' book written from Lois’ point of view, released around the same time as this episode.
- Lois has run for public office before. In “ Running Mates ,” she lost the election for School Board President after Peter bought an ad showing a racy photo of her.
- This is the fourth time the writers reference 9/11 , the others being in “ Airport ’07 ” , “ Boys Do Cry ” and " No Chris Left Behind "
- Writer Alex Borstein is credited as “a.bo” at the beginning of the episode.
- From the way he plays the guitar, it seems that Peter is a Lefty . However in The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire , when he sings Rock Lobster to Cleveland, he strums using his right hand as opposed to his left. It could be possible Peter is Ambidextrous .
- At the end of the episode, the last scene cuts to an “Executive Producers” credit, so that Adam West's last gunshot occurs "off-screen." The only other time an episode ended with an “Executive Producers” credit was a freeze frame during the Pilot .

- After the family catches Quagmire with the Asian woman, his line, "And here I am, cream on my face, hair a mess, and in mid-coitus. I must look a sight!" is cut out of the FOX version.
- On the FOX version of the song Peter plays about "Brokeback Mountain", Peter sings that the two cowboys are having "gay sex". The Adult Swim version uses the original, more explicit line "butt sex".
- When Stewie discovers Brian has a Ziggy tattoo, Brian mumbles "Ah, geez." under his breath on FOX. On Adult Swim, he sighs, "Jesus."
- On the part where Stewie plays the piano and farts (while the family wears the aristocratic wigs), the FOX version has Stewie wearing frilly white underwear when he exposes his butt. On the Adult Swim version, his bare bottom is shown.
- On the cutaway of Adam West trying to pick up a girl on the street with his slicked back hair, Adam West says on the FOX version, "Hey baby, wanna take a gander at some Adam West penis?" On Adult Swim, the original line, "Hey baby, want some Adam West penis?" was used instead.
- During the Channel 5 newscast, when Tom Tucker reports on whether or not the town is ready for a female mayor, Tom Tucker says in the FOX version, "Can a woman really be mayor, or will she just menstruate all over the city?" The Adult Swim version changes the line to "Can a woman really be mayor, or will she just bleed all over the city?".
- On the FOX version, when Quagmire grouses about how he had sex with every woman in town, he says that he only has one sperm left who's lonely and scared. On the Adult Swim version, the line about the sperm who is alone and scared is replaced with a line where he states that if he tries to masturbate, a flag with the word "Bang!" on it would come out, which Joe chuckles at.
- Peter recalls his family vacationing with the yodeler from the Cliff Hangers pricing game on '' The Price Is Right '', while Cleveland vacations at the Plinko board. - Peter reanimates the corpse of Jim Varney (intending to raise John Belushi ), best known for his character Ernest P. Worrell , a talkative redneck who always seems to be talking to his unseen neighbor, named Vern. After taking him outside to shoot him, Peter runs back in, screaming that he got his shotgun.
