DEMOGRAPHICS The Association of Muslims in Iceland had 341 members in 2006. The Association itself estimates there are 800-1000 Muslims living in Iceland. ASSOCIATION OF MUSLIMS IN ICELAND The Association of Muslims in Iceland (Felag Muslima a Islandi) was founded in 1997. It is headed by Salmann Tamimi, a Palestinian immigrant. AFS, Islam and Icelanders MOSQUES The community has its own Mosque since 2002 . The mosque offers daily prayer nights and weekly Friday prayers, which attracts a core group of 30 individuals. In 2000 the Muslim Association has applied to build a purpose-build mosque in Reykjavik. However, the city has yet to approve the plans, saying there are competing claims to the land in question.
