BACKGROUND

The community was originally known as ''Coopers Spur'' because of the railroad spur that was put in to help ship lumber from the many lumber mills in the area. In 1910, it was renamed Holden.

As an unincorporated community, Holden does not have elected officials or a town government. It relies on the Livingston Parish Sheriff's office for protection. It is located in Livingston Parish Fire District 10.

There are several companies in the Holden area including Griffin Industries, Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Weyerhaeuser, and Berryland Campers Outlet. The community is also home to many churches.


EDUCATION

Area students attend Holden School, a K-12 campus that is part of the Livingston Parish Public School system. The school has approximately 705 students and its mascots are the Rockets and Lady Rockets.

The Mighty Rockets Basketball team won the Louisiana Class C State Championship in 1963.

The Lady Rockets Basketball team won the Louisiana Class C State Championship in 1972 and has won the Louisiana Class B State Championship in 1996, 1997, and 2006.

Holden's first known State Championship was in 1937 in basketball. It was taken away from the school that same year when an ineligibility was discovered on the championship team.
