The Hillsong United band is an Australian Christian Rock and worship band, a part of Hillsong Church 's youth ministry Hillsong United . Their music is praise and worship with a contemporary style that is a mix of Contemporary Christian Music and mainstream rock. HISTORY The band originated from Hillsong Church's youth ministry Hillsong United in the late 1990s. The band was formerly known as United Live and was led by Reuben Morgan and Marty Sampson and consisted of the worship team from Hillsong United youth. United Live recorded and released its first album in 1999 when worship pastor, Darlene Zschech suggested to Reuben that they make an album after many songs were written in the youth ministry. The album was successfull, achieving Gold sale status in Australia. The band continued to release an album each year, rebranding as '''Hillsong United''' in 2002 after Reuben Morgan stepped down. Joel Houston , the son of the church's senior pastor, stepped up to lead the group together with Marty. Other members of the Hillsong United band include Jonathon Douglass (J.D.), Jadwin "Jad" Gillies, Holly Dawson, Annie Garratt, Bec Gillies, and Michelle Fragar, daughter of Russell Fragar . Michael Guy Chislett plays guitar and Matthew Tennikoff plays Bass Guitar . Popular New Zealand artist Brooke Fraser joined the band when she joined the church, first appearing on '' United We Stand ''. There are many drummers that play for United including Rolf Wam Fjell who is the main drummer for Hillsong Music and Matt Crocker who also is a songwriter for the band. The annual Hillsong United CD/DVD was for many years recorded during their October youth conference ''Encounterfest'', with the album released in the first quater of the following year. The 2007 album '' All Of The Above '' was the first album to be fully studio recorded, containing videos of songs on the DVD. It is expected that future Hillsong United albums will be studio recorded. The band has toured in a number of countries, leading worship to thousands in North and South America , Europe and Asia . SUCCESS AND ACHIEVMENT The 2006 album '', the album was released on 22 May , 2007 , selling 10,505 units in its first week. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart, #1 on ITunes ' chart of Christian music digital album sales, and #60 on the Billboard Top 200 . {Link without Title} The first single off the album, "Point of Difference", was a top ten hit on Christian radio in Australia.
