  • ''Captain'' (1678), 70 gun third-rate launched at Woolwich in 1678. Rebuilt in 1708 and again in 1722. Converted to a hulk in February 1739 and broken up at Portsmouth in May 1762.

  • ''Captain'' (1760), 70 gun third rate launched at Woolwich on 14 April 1743. Reduced to 64 guns in 1760. Converted to a storeship, and renamed HMS ''Buffalo'' on 7 February 1777. Broken up in October 1783.

  • '' Captain '' (1787) - 74-gun Third-rate Ship Of The Line . She was Captain Horatio Nelson's ship at the Battle Of Cape St Vincent ( 14 February 1797 ). Assigned to harbour service in December 1809 and seriously damaged by an accidental fire on 22 March 1813 at Plymouth. Broken up a few months later in July 1813.

  • '' Captain '' (1815), 72 guns, launched at Deptford on 21 January 1783, was originally named HMS ''Carnatic''. The ship was renamed HMS ''Captain'' on 14 July 1815 and broken up in September 1825.

  • '' Captain '' (1825) was originally the 100 gun first rate HMS ''Royal Sovereign'' launched in 1786. The ship was renamed HMS ''Captain'' on 17 May 1825, when it was reduced to harbour service at Plymouth. The vessel was broken up in August 1841 at Plymouth.

  • ''Captain'' was to have been the name of HMS ''Agincourt'' but the ship was renamed before her launch in 1865.

  • '' Captain '' (1869) - Masted turret ship of controversial design which sank in a gale in the Bay of Biscay, 7 September 1870 , a few months after commissioning.
