GEOGRAPHY

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 96.1 Km&2 (37.1 Mi&2 ). 90.5 km&2 (35.0 mi&2) of it is land and 5.6 km&2 (2.2 mi&2) of it (5.82%) is water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 10,807 people, 4,194 households, and 2,893 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 119.4/km&2 (309.2/mi&2). There were 4,530 housing units at an average density of 50.0/km&2 (129.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.28% White , 1.40% African American , 1.07% Native American , 0.87% Asian , 0.05% Pacific Islander , 0.66% from Other Races , and 1.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.94% of the population.

There were 4,194 households out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% were Married Couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $50,156, and the median income for a family was $58,852. Males had a median income of $37,869 versus $27,441 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $21,196. About 4.1% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 6.1% of those under age 18 and 7.6% of those age 65 or over.
