Originally called Charlotte Town after Queen Charlotte of Britain, it was renamed Goyauve by the French because of its large amounts of guava trees. The town was the site of a large battle in 1795. The town is also known as "Action City" or "The Town That Never Sleeps". One of the town's annual celebrations is Fisherman's Birthday. On the week of June 29 , fishermen come from all over Grenada for Competative boat racing. Also, every Friday the town celabrates "Fish Friday". |
