Gene Shue




Shue spent ten years as a player, during which he invented the "Spin Move", and 23 years as a Head Coach in the National Basketball Association . Shue was an NBA All-Star five consecutive times (1958-62) and was named All-NBA First Team once ( 1960 ). When Shue retired he was the highest scoring guard in the NBA. This record was later broken by Earvin "Magic" Johnson. As a coach, he guided the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals 1977 , but eventually lost to the Bill Walton -led Portland Trail Blazers . This was the infamous game after which Daryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins ripped the toilet out of the floor in the locker room.
As a Head Coach, Gene Shue was Named 'NBA Coach of the Year' twice.

At an NBA meeting in the late eighties, Commissioner David Stern commented that " The reason we keep expanding in the NBA is so that Gene Shue will always have a job. After all, he stated, "Shue was around before the ball. ;)
