On the outskirts of Wigan, the semi-rural Gathurst is a recently refurbished two-platform station on the Southport line 5 km (2¾ miles) north west of Wigan Wallgate station. The station also serves the nearby village of Shevington . SERVICE There is generally an hourly service from Gathurst westbound to Southport and eastbound to Manchester Victoria (and beyond to Rochdale ).
