Gary made his screen debut in 1979, and appeared in numerous British films and Television programmes, but achieved fame only with the role of Ben Porter in the Sitcom '' 2point4 Children '' (1991 - 1999). Gary played a starring film role as Arthur Hoyle alongside Samantha Janus and Neil Morrissey in the Rugby League comedy '' Up N Under ''. Olsen also displayed his comic talents as Steve in The Comic Strip Presents send up of '' The Fly '' – ''The Yob''. He also starred with Brian Bovell in the 1986 TV Series Prospects about 2 likely lads in the Docklands trying to get ahead but usually failing. Gary died of cancer in Victoria , where he had emigrated following his diagnosis. He left a widow, his Australian second wife, Jane. FURTHER ACTING CAREER Olsen had recently (just before his death) starred as a bleach blond crime boss in the British gangster movie 24 Hours In London - his first major film role. But before that, he had taken a number of minor movie parts including roles in in Peter Greenaway's film The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, with Helen Mirren. Starting out as a bit part actor in the late 1970s, Olsen's earliest credits included "Guy In Bar" in Hazel O'Connor's Breaking Glass in 1980 and "Worker No 1" in Outland with Sean Connery. His first starring role in British television was in the critically-acclaimed Thames Television Comedy Drama ''Prospects''. Despite the plaudits from critics it survived just one season. Later he appeared in the Rocky Horror Show, Pink Floyd's The Wall. On the BBC, Olsen also appeared in Paul Calf's Video Diaries with comedian Steve Coogan. {Link without Title} EXTERNAL LINKS
