Before the launch of Food Network in Canada, the American service ''
TV Food Network '' was already available in Canada. In early 2000, an agreement between the three owners to create a Canadian service was made and an application to the
Canadian Radio-television And Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for a licence was made. Food Network Canada was launched in October 2000; TV Food Network was removed from the list of eligible foreign services to broadcast in Canada and was replaced with Food Network Canada.
