A Family Tree , generally the totality of one's ancestors, or specifically, a chart used in genealogy to show the family connections between individuals.
A family tree is also the name given to a tree where several different varieties have been Grafted or budded onto the same root-stock. This approach is used on several types of fruit trees such as apples, pears and plums, but also other plants such as roses or paeonies. Apricots and peaches can also be grown on on a plum stock because they come from closely related plants. This has a number of advantages, in enabling several varieties to be grown in a small space, Pollination between the different varieties, and in spreading out fruit production as the different varieties mature at different times.
