The complex consists of the following venues: PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP STADIUM The Peace and Friendship Stadium, known as ''S.E.F.'' after its Greek name (''Stadio Erinis & Filias'' - located in Faliro that hosted Indoor Volleyball at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece . It had previously hosted various major international events, including the 1987 Men's European Basketball Championships and the 1998 FIBA World Basketball Championships. Renovations for the Olympics commenced in April 2002 and were completed on June 30 , 2004 . The new stadium was officially opened on August 11 , 2004 , shortly before the opening of the games. The venue seats up to 15,000, though the public capacity was only 9,400 during the games. The arena is the regular home court of Olympiacos basketball club. It also hosted: Basketball - World Championships preliminary phase (1998), European Championships (1987), Euroleague Final (1985) and Final-4 (1993), CupWinners' Cup Final (1989) Volleyball - World Championships (1994), European Championships (1995), Teams European Cup Final-4 (1992 & 1993), CupWinners' Cup Final-4 (1996), Top Teams Cup Final-4 (2005) Athletics - European Indoor Championships (1985) Wrestling - World Cup (1988) and Championships (1999), European Championships (1986) Gymnastics - World Championships (1991), European Championships (1990) Weightlifting - World Championships (1999) OLYMPIC BEACH VOLLEYBALL CENTRE The Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre is a Stadium in Faliro that hosted the Beach Volleyball competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece . The stadium holds a total of 9,600 individuals, though the public Seating Capacity is limited to 7,300 during the Olympics. The stadium was officially opened on August 2 , 2004 , a few weeks before the Olympics, though test events were held at the site a year earlier. SPORTS PAVILION The Sports Pavilion is an Indoor Arena in Faliro , near Piraeus , Greece . It was the site of preliminary matches in Handball and the Taekwondo competition in the 2004 Summer Olympics at Athens . The arena was completed on December 20 , 2003 and officially opened on August 12 , 2004 , shortly before the Olympics. The arena seats 8,100, though only 5,800 seats were publicly available during the Olympics. |
