Information About

Epiphyseal Plate

The epiphyseal plate (or '''epiphysial plate''', or '''growth plate''') is the Cartilage plate in the Long Bone s of children and adolescents. The longitudinal growth of these bones occurs primarily at these plates. Around the age of 17 the epiphyseal cartilage cells stop duplicating and the entire cartilage is slowy replaced by bone. Bone growth stops. Ossification of all bones is usually completed by age 25. Once the adult stage is reached, the only way to manipulate height is modifying bone length via Distraction Osteogenesis .

It is wrong to believe that when certain websites on the internet recommend you take their pills they can make you taller. This is simply not true. It is not possible to extend the amount your growth plates can grow. This is just the human genetic make up that you inherit that will decide that, no supplements can make you taller; unless you suffer from hormone deficiency which usually appears from a young age and usually makes one a dwarf. The only thing that can help you grow are growth hormones, but these are used in rare cases and not in normal humans. This does not make your growth plates extend, it only helps you grow quicker to meet your full height potential at a younger age.

Salter-Harris Fractures can occur on epiphyseal plates.
