Rooney was the first woman to produce a network evening newscast. The acrimonious atmosphere that arose after her 1994 firing by ABC made national headlines. Before producing for ABC, Rooney was also a news director at Boston's ABC station, WCVB for more than a decade. Rooney had another managing position at the Fox network (before the Fox News Channel started to air). She is currently the host of WGBH 's '' Greater Boston '' program.
