There were formerly two railway stations in
Eltham on the
Bexleyheath Line :
- approximately 4 miles from Lewisham , in Well Hall Road.
- a few hundred yards further east, in Westmount Road.
Both were on opened on . The two stations lay between
Kidbrooke and
Falconwood .
When the new Rochester Road (part of the
A2 ) was opened, both stations were closed, and one station, Eltham railway station, took their place on
16 March 1985 . That station is located on a raft over the main road, and is part of a bus/rail interchange.
Trains run east to
Dartford ; some are extended to
Gravesend or the
Medway Towns ; and a few rush-hour trains are diverted to
Slade Green , and west to
Cannon Street ,
Charing Cross or
Victoria . The daytime service is one train every half an hour to each of the two London termini, resulting in a 15 minute frequency as far west as
Lewisham .
