The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF), produced in the beautiful city of Edmonton , Alberta , Canada , is a nine-day Film Festival that celebrates independent Films , and Filmmakers . Our goal is to bring the best, independent Cinema to our audiences; to discover new, emerging filmmakers; and inspire our own movie-making community. At the Edmonton International Film Festival, it is the films – and the filmmakers – that we celebrate! The EIFF team works passionately at making each filmmaker – whether your art form is Short Films , Feature Films or Documentaries – feel like a superstar! We would love to program every film we receive, but that’s not an option for us – yet! What we offer filmmakers is the opportunity to screen their films at an intimate, 9-day Festival to an audience that is sophisticated and supportive. The Edmonton International Film Festival began in 1986 as ‘Local Heroes’ – an intimate, 3-day film festival produced in the middle of March where local and North American industry types could hang out, watch movies, exchange ideas, play some shinny hockey, and do everything necessary to stay WARM! Over time, the festival became 5-days, then 7-days. And the festival became a badge of honor for visiting filmmakers. Thermal t-shirts boasted ‘I Survived Local Heroes’. Audiences crammed into movie theatres mostly to see Films they’d never have any other opportunity to see, but also to share body heat. Baby, it can get cold here. Our hearts are some of the warmest you’ll find – anywhere in the world! In 2003, festival organizers moved the festival to September, expanded it to 9-days, and re-branded the Edmonton International Film Festival. 2007 marks the 21st anniversary of EIFF. Edmonton – a city of one million people, just hours away from the glorious Canadian Rockies – is the number one movie-going city in Canada , the richest Canadian province, and the 2007 Cultural City of Canada! The General Manager and Festival Producer of the Edmonton International Film Festival, since 2004, is Kerrie Long. EIFF is a Non-profit , charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board Of Directors . EXTERNAL LINKS |
