Eason Chan Yik-Shun (; Born July 27 1974 in Hong Kong ) is a prominent male singer and wishes to be a part of the skilled class (實力派) in Hong Kong 's music industry. Eason is an artist of Cinepoly Records , which belongs to Universal Music Group . He is also married to long-time girlfriend Hilary Tsui , and has a daughter Constance, born in Oct 2004. Eason was sent to England to study at the age of 12. He attended Dauntsey's School in Wiltshire , England and later Kingston University majoring in architecture. Eason returned to Hong Kong before finishing his degree to participate in the 1995 New Talent Singing Competition and subsequently won first place. Immediately after his win, Capital Artists signed him and thus ended his future career as an architect. Since then, Eason has fully committed himself to making music. Eason Chan is a frequent winner of Hong Kong music awards, his most recent awards include the prestigious Hong Kong's Most Popular Male Singer of 2006 award given by TVB . His album U87, released in 2005, has been recommended by Time Magazine as one of the five best Asian albums worth buying.1 U87 also has won the top sale of album (non-concert, non-collection category) in Hong Kong in 2005.2

On 7 July , 2007 Chan performed at the Chinese Leg of Live Earth in Shanghai.

Chan is not only a skilled singer, but also a versatile musician. He plays a wide variety of musical instruments - the Piano , Drums , Guitar , Violin , Harmonica , Accordion , Saxophone , Electronic Organ as well as the Trumpet .

MUSICAL

On 18 August and 19 August , 2005 , Chan performed the Musical ''Wrestling with God'' (人神鬥), the second programme of ''Love Music Tour 05'' organised by Netvigator . He was the Leading Actor and Producer . Stars featured in the show included famous Comedian Jim Chim (詹瑞文), Cantopop singer Wilfred Lau (劉浩龍), Taiwan ese talented singer Mavis Fan (范曉萱), ''Best Supporting Actress Winner'' of the ''23rd Hong Kong Film Awards'' Josie Ho (何超儀), pop Duo At17 and Soler . The story was about the competition among different Angels (played by the featured stars) to protect the only man alive in the world (played by Eason Chan). The secret guest, veteran singer George Lam (林子祥), played Chan's late father. The audience were impressed by the performers, who told the story through song and dance.


TRIVIA


  • Chan is often compared to Jacky Cheung as both of them lack glamorous appearances, but have finally managed to win the hearts of people from all walks of life with their superb singing skills. Coincidentally, Jacky Cheung has been Chan’s idol since he was young.

  • Eason and Jacky are both excellent in singing talents, and so Chan is named as the follower of Cheung as the God of Song (歌神)

  • There is a duet called 天下太平 sung by Chan and Cheung in the album Perfect Match by 林夕,伍樂城 released in April 2006.

  • Eason's father, Chan Kau-tai , is a former chief engineer of the Housing Department of Hong Kong . Being the prime suspect of a major case of Corruption , he was found guilty in 2003 but was cleared in 2005 . His trial continues.

  • Eason was involved in an accident during his concert in Taiwan where he fell off the stage and injured his groin. Later in the hospital it was realized that one of his testicles had been severely damaged. He has since fully recovered.

  • Eason was reported as criticizing Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki after she had finished her Hong Kong concert on April 7, 2007. He commented that Ayumi might have been lip-syncing (夾口形) in her concert; this statement enraged many of her fans. They also threatened to not buy Eason's CD and wanted him to apologize for his words. Soon after, Grasshopper , a Hong Kong singing group, backed Eason's comments. Eason's label, Cinepoly Records , is not commenting on this incident. Hamasaki's record label and reporters came quick to her defense, stating that she did not lipsynch whatsoever and that the sound system was specially flown in from Japan which was the reason for the high quality of sound.

  • Eason's friends in the show biz include: Miriam Yeung , Nicholas Tse , Eric Kwok , Edmond Leung , Andy Hui , Josie Ho , Joey Yung and HOCC .

  • He has married Hilary Tsui and has a daughter Constance.

  • Eason gave up smoking after the birth of his baby girl. He was reported to have done it for his daughter, and also to protect his voice.

  • He appeared on a celebrity edition of the Weakest Link in Hong Kong in 2001, however, he was voted off.
