Delaware Route 72 is a state highway located in New Castle County , Delaware . The route runs from Delaware Route 9 near Delaware City to Delaware Route 7 in Pike Creek . The route starts out from Delaware Route 9 in a westerly direction, featuring an interchage with Delaware Route 1 . The route then turns more to the north and skirts the eastern edge of Newark . It shares a concurrency with Delaware Route 2 around Newark. Delaware Route 72 then splits from Delaware Route 2, and heads north to Pike Creek.
