David Mercer ( 27 June 1928 , Wakefield , England – 8 August 1980 , Haifa , Israel ) was an English playwright and dramatist. After working as a technician and in the Royal Navy he attended Kings College, Newcastle (which then awarded degrees validated by the Durham University ) and graduated in 1953. David Mercer wrote plays that studied decline in British culture which became well known in the 1960s, including ''Morgan, A Suitable Case for Treatment'' (television, 1962) which was re-made as a film in 1966 called '' Morgan! '' and ''After Haggerty'' (1970). Much of his early 1960s television work for the BBC was made in collaboration with the director Don Taylor . He is depicted as Malcolm Sloman in Trevor Griffiths ' 1973 play ''The Party''. WORKS
