EARLY CAREER

Campbell first won roles in major performances in the early to mid 1990s at the Stables theatre in Sydney . He then received a nomination for a MO Award for Best Musical Theatre Performer for his role in the revival of Alex Hardings ' " Only Heaven Knows ". He has also performed in cabaret in New York, and appeared in the Cameron Mackintosh tribute show '' Hey Mr Producer '' in London.

David Campbell took the major starring role in the musical " Shout! ", the story of 'The Wild One' Australian rocker Johnny O'Keefe . He has also had starring roles in productions of '' Les Misérables '' (as Marius), '' Saturday Night'' , '' Babes In Arms '', '' Urinetown '' and '' Sunset Boulevard ''. For the latter, he won the 2006 Helpmann Award for Best Actor in a Musical.


RECENT RECORDING CAREER

In 2006, Campbell released '' The Swing Sessions '', an album covering 13 classic swing tracks such as " Mack The Knife ", " Call Me Irresponsible ", " Mr Bojangles ", and " Can't Take My Eyes Off You ". The album was produced by Chong Lim . He has also announced during a television appearance that another Swing Sessions album is being worked on, due for release late 2007, also produced by Mr Lim.

David won the 2007 Helpmann Award for Best Performance in an Australian Contemporary Concert for his Wild With Style shows.


TELEVISION CAREER

In May 2007 David Campbell appeared on celebrity singing competition '' It Takes Two '' as a professional performer. His celebrity partner is Jolene Anderson , an actress on Australian drama '' All Saints ''. They cover styles such as pop, rock, motown/soul, number one hits, disco and 80s. The pair have several times received scores of 10, and even received perfect 10s from all four judges. Jolene and David won on July 10 th 2007 , 2nd Place went to Anthony Callea & Jo Stanley .

Campbell's father is Australian singer Jimmy Barnes , but he was raised by his grandmother, often talking fondly of her and attributing his love of swing music to her influence (this he often refers to during his live concerts). Campbell performed with his father on an episode of '' Dancing With The Stars ''.

It was announced on July 26 , 2007 that Campbell has been selected to host the new Australian game show '' The Singing Bee '' which will premiere on the Nine Network in September 2007 .
