Dan Tucker ( February 14 , 1740 – April 7 , 1818 ) was a planter and ferryman. He was born in Virginia, but took up residence on the Savannah River in Elbert County, Georgia , in the place called "Point Lookout". He was a soldier during the revolutionary war, a planter and a minister - but his chief claim to lasting fame was that he may have been the subject of the song " Old Dan Tucker " by Daniel D. Emmett . REFERENCES
