The Crossfire is a Rear-wheel Drive Sports Car sold by DaimlerChrysler 's Chrysler Marque , and replaced the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler . The car is built for DaimlerChrysler by Karmann in Germany and shares 39% of its components with other Mercedes models. The chassis is a combination of a modified C-class engine compartment, Pre 2003 CLK floor pan, S-Class rear linkages and new stampings for the side rails and rear. It is available as a Coupé and as a Roadster . The car first arrived in the public spotlight as a Concept Car and was put into production in 2003. Its designer was Eric Stoddard 1. Flagging sales hindered the car throughout its production run, and the car was discontinued for 2007 in the United States and Mexico , but a 2007 model continued in Europe and Canada. In 2008, the vehicle will be re-introduced in the US market, despite slow sales. {Link without Title} NAME The name Crossfire comes as a reference to the distinctive character lines that run from front to rear through the body sides. They create a surface that is upward facing as it passes over the rear fender, but they cross mid-way through the door to form a downward facing surface as they reach the front fender. Also, since it shares elements from Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, the name is a reference to their collaboration. FEATURES The standard Transmission is a 6-speed Manual , and a 5-speed Automatic is optional. Base Crossfires, originally sold beginning in the 2004 model year, are equipped with a 3.2 L, 18- Valve , SOHC V6 Engine which produces 215 Hp and 229 ft·lbf of Torque . SALES The sales of the Crossfire have been slow, with an average 230 day supply of the vehicles as of November 2005. The Crossfire has been outselling its predecessor, the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler ever since. In December, the cars were listed on Overstock.com to clear out inventory. Very few Crossfires were imported to the United States and Mexico for 2006 (and almost all of these were roadsters), though there is a 2006 model for Europe and Canada . Note: Cars produced in one calendar year may be marketed as the following model year. 2004 In 2004, there was a single Crossfire edition as a Coupe. The Chrysler Crossfire is still being made. 2005 In 2005, the SRT-6 trim level was added. Variants numbered six, with two body models, Coupe and Roadster, and three trim levels, Base, Limited and SRT-6. {Link without Title} - The limited coupe has the the following amenities(compared to a base): - cupholder - homelink - "crossfire" nameplated stainless steel door sill plates - storage net between both front seats - storage nets behind both front seats mounted on the bulkhead at the bottom - silver cigarette lighter - tire pressure monitor - aluminum rubber studded pedals - power seats - different seats altogether with adjustable headrests - leather seats - heated seats - 6 speaker 240 watt Infinity modulus radio (base just has a 4 speaker stereo with black knobs and no amplifier) - fog lights - silver trimmed speaker grilles - satin silver finish exterior windshield frame, side fender vents and door handles (all black on base) - chrome finish on exhaust pipe tips - automatic transmission option - color option other than black clearcoat - interior color option other than black cloth - gas strut on glovebox door (this strut is on the limited creates a slow opening door rather than just dropping open) - heated exterior mirrors - cabin air filtration system (base just has a simple recirculation feature) - floormats - touring gear - painted engine cover 2006 Trim level changes included the dropping of the SRT-6 and renaming of Base to Standard, returning to four variants: Standard Coupe and Roadster, and Limited Coupe and Roadster.
