Carnegie Corporation




The Carnegie Corporation of New York is a Philanthropical foundation based in New York City , which issues general purpose grants to various organisations, institutions and other not-for-profit entities. It was founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1911 to "promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding."

The foundation's capital fund, originally valued at about $135 million, had a market value of approximately $2.2 billion in late 2005. It is expected that the foundation's grant making will total more than $80 million during fiscal year 2005–2006.

The Carnegie Corporation is best known for issuing grants for PBS children's programs, such as '' Sesame Street '', '' The Electric Company '', '' Between The Lions '', '' Clifford The Big Red Dog '' and '' ZOOM ''.
