Information About

Buena Vista, Peru

In May, 2006 , Archeologist Robert Benfer of the University Of Missouri announced the discovery of a 4200 y.o. observatory discovered on the site, located in the Rio Chillon Valley . At the foot of the Peruvian Andes , with structures that mark the summer and winter Solstice s, it is the oldest known observatory in the Americas.

The site was first inhabited by an unknown Pre-ceramic culture (archaeologists simply call them ''the Andeans'') over 10,000 years ago.

The observatory is located atop a small Pyramid which is part of a Temple . Radiocarbon Dating of materials from the temple dates its use to 2200 B.C.E.
