It is located on Conception Bay between Carbonear and Harbour Grace . Bristol's Hope claims to be the second Newfoundland colony established by Bristol 's Society Of Merchant Venturers . It was a "sister" colony to Cuper's Cove , and was established in 1618 when the ''Society'' won a land grant from King James I Of England , and was settled by colonists from Cuper's Cove.
