competed at the ''' 2004 Summer Olympics ''' in Athens , Greece .
Brazilian athletes were represented by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (abbreviated ). The largest Brazilian delegation ever consisted of 247 athletes (125 men and 122 women), which represented 42 more athletes than in Sydney 2000 and 22 more than in Atlanta 1996 — the previous record. If the delegation's officials (i.e. coaches, assistants, trainers, doctors and administrative personnel) are included, the total number comes to 408 members.
In Athens 2004 Brazil competed in all but ten events ( Archery , Badminton , Canoeing - Slalom , Cycling - Track , Softball , Gymnastics - Trampoline , Baseball , Water Polo , Hockey and Weightlifting ). In some events, however, Brazil only competed partially, such as in Basketball and Football (soccer), where both men's teams failed to qualify for the Olympics in their respective pre-Olympic trials. In shooting, Brazil had just one athlete, competing in the men's Trap event, which means that the Women's events and the other Men's events had no Brazilian participation.
Although Brazil's final medal count was inferior to its Atlanta (15 medals) and Sydney (12 medals) tallies, it won 5 gold medals, the most ever at the Olympic Games.
