Beth Lapides is an author, comedian, artist, teacher, activist, radio & TV personality, and former First Lady candidate. FILM & TV APPEARANCES Lapideshas appeared on CNN, ''Politically Incorrect,'' and HBO's "Sex and the City". She's a commentator for NPR's "All Things Considered", was Self Help Consultant on ABC Radio's ''Satellite Sisters,'' and hosted her own live daily talk show on Comedy World. She has been featured on many TV & radio shows including the ''Today Show,'' ''Politically Incorrect,'' ''Dateline,'' ''E! True Hollywood Story,'' and ''Morning Edition.'' UN-CABARET In 1993 Lapidescreated the Un-Cabaret, the live show in the ' Alternative Comedy ' tradition. She went on to create ''Say the Word'' in 2000, which was a storytelling show, and ''The Other Network,'' a festival of the un-aired TV pilots. Beth is the Artistic Director of all Un-Cabaret productions. DID I WAKE YOU? Lapides's first book "DID I WAKE YOU? - Haikus for Modern Living" was published in fall 2006 by Soft Skull Press. Her writing has also been published in periodicals including the ''Los Angeles Times,'' ''Utne Reader,'' ''The Realist,'' ''LA Weekly,'' and ''Premiere''. POLITICAL ACTIVISM Lapides is politically active and has performed and produced benefits with dozens of organizations, including the ACLU's "Freedom Files", a benefit CD for the Drug Policy Alliance, shows and events for PEN, DPA, NOW, Feral Cat Alliance, Barbara Boxer, and many others. During the 1992 Presidential election, she ran a guerrilla campaign to make First Lady Of The United States an elected position. She was featured on CNN, in People and Interview Magazine, and attended the Democratic National Convention. ART Lapides has received several NEA grants for her one-person shows and hand-made books. Her visual art has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Library, Ghetto Gloss in Los Angeles and many downtown New York galleries. She had a one-person show in 2004, and continues to exhibit in group shows. WORKSHOPS Beth has conducted classes and workshops at Humber College of the Arts, CalArts, the Skirball Center, and privately through the Un-Cab Lab writing & performance workshop. |
