Beitou






Beitou District (; , Taiwan. The historical spelling of the district is '''Peitou'''. The name originates from the Ketagalan word ''Kipatauw'', meaning Witch . Beitou is the most mountainous and highest of Taipei's districts.

Beitou is famous for Hot Springs . Residents of this district note that sulfuric fumes from the hot springs do ruin their electric appliances in the long term.


HISTORY

Between 1920 and 1941 , Beitou was a village (北投庄) in Shichisei-gun (Qixing District), Taihoku Prefecture (台北州七星郡). It was upgraded to a town (北投街) in 1941 . After World War II , it was renamed as Beitou urban township (北投鎮), belonging to Taipei County . Beginning in 1949 , Beitou and Shilin were administered by the newly-formed Yangminshan Administrative Bureau . Both of them were merged into Taipei City in 1968 .
Beitou is also a popular tourist attraction, and has long been treasured by the Japanese due to its stunning landscape, heart-pounding food, and fantastic atmosphere which is similar to that of Tokyo. Filled with Five-star hotels, endless number of restaurants, and world-class buildings, Beitou is sure a one-of-a-kind.
