Beijing West Railway Station




. Opened in early 1996 after three years of construction, it is one of the largest Railway Stations in Asia . It was expanded in 2000 and is now able to handle 300,000 passengers per day and also had a vast amount parking lots added.

Due to the building being poorly constructed, it is expected to have a shortened life. The poor construction standards, which resulted in a leaky roof when it opened, are blamed on corruption and bribery. {Link without Title} . As it is built on mud, it is also currently sinking.


SERVICES

Trains departing from Beijing West leave for destinations to the West and South, except for coastal destinations, which are served by Beijing Railway Station .

The well-known Jingjiu Railway , or Beijing- Kowloon Railway line, begins from this railway station.

Since the opening of the Qingzang Railway in 2006, it is possible to catch a direct train to Lhasa from this station.

In the future, it will be served by the Beijing Subway , in addition, another underground link line will be built to connect it with the Beijing Railway Station , which has been planned since the Beijing Railway Station was completed in 1950s.
