The Baltimore Washington Eagles Australian Rules Football Club is a USAFL Side representing the greater Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area . The club is successful, having won two, division two USAFL championships and has one of the more successful junior programs operating in the USA. HISTORY The club was founded in 1998 as the Washington Eagles. The Baltimore Washington Eagles began with a game in early 1999 between teams from the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC and Australia Expatriates living in nearby Baltimore, Maryland . The joint side that was formed from that game was immediately competitive, garnering a division two Premiership at that year's USAFL National Championships in Cincinnati, OH . The Eagles continue to be strong, having sent teams to every USAFL nationals, as well as hosting the tournament in 2001. In October 2006, the Eagles won the division two premiership at the USAFL national tournament in Las Vegas. {Link without Title} METRO LEAGUE The Eagles support a Metro Footy league, Baltimore Washington Eagles Metro Competition with teams representing Baltimore , Washington, DC , and Northern Virginia . The teams play a Round-robin style season, culminating in a Metro Grand Final . The main objective of the Metro Competition is for new players to participate and develop their skills as well as build fitness levels among some of the more veteran players. AUSBALL LEAGUE The Eagles also support a Ausball league which was introduced briefly during the start and summer months of the 2006 season and was further developed in 2007. This modified version of Australian rules football is played with nine players per side, between co-eds, in a non-contact game format. With four teams representing Baltimore , Washington, DC , and two sides from Northern Virginia , the sides play a Round-robin style season, culminating in a Ausball Grand Final . The goal of Ausball is to introduce new players, both men and women to the fundamentals of the game in a fun, but less physically demanding environment. The Eagles are the first and one of a few teams to regularly play Ausball in the United States to date. SOCIAL The social aspect of Australian rules football played in the United States is a key component of the popularity of the club. Special events include a live broadcast party of the AFL Grand Final , as well as annual Paintball and Golf tournaments, White Water Rafting trips and a Pub Quiz fundraiser night. SEE ALSO
