BBC Radio Sheffield is the BBC Local Radio service for English Metropolitan County of South Yorkshire and the North Midlands . It was the second BBC local radio station, beginning on 15 November 1967 . It broadcasts from its studios in Sheffield on 88.6 (Crosspool, Sheffield), 94.7 ( Chesterfield ), 104.1 FM , 1035 AM and DAB . It is also now available through live streaming on the internet. TRANSMITTERS The strongest 104.1FM signal is broadcast at 2,500ft from the Holme Moss Transmitter (actually in West Yorkshire , on the border with Derbyshire), enabling the signal to be clearly heard over much of Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire in the Worksop area. The Crosspool transmitter on Tapton Hill also has Hallam FM on 97.4FM, Galaxy 105 on 105.6FM and Real Radio on 107.7FM. The Chesterfield Transmitter also has Peak FM on 107.4FM. The Chesterfield signal can be heard as far south on the M1 as Copt Oak . The Broadfield Road transmitter in Sheffield is between the A621 and the A61 behind Heeley Swimming Pool . DAB radio signals come from the EMAP South Yorkshire 11C multiplex from the transmitters at Clifton (next to the M18 east of Rotherham ) and Tapton Hill (Sheffield). EMAP own Hallam FM. WEEKDAY PROGRAMMES Daytime Programmes 'The Early Show' is presented by Phil Butler who, between 5.00am and 7.00am, brings listeners the day's news and news features. There are news updates every 20 minutes presented by veteran broadcaster and Sony Radio Academy Award nominee Everard Davy . The Bigger Breakfast is presented by local stand-up comic and Sony Radio Academy Award nominee, Toby Foster , from 7.00am until 9.00am,. Toby's show is a mix of news and entertainment, with the emphasis very much on Toby himself. Toby is not only a comic and radio presenter but runs a chain of local comedy clubs and appeared in the hit TV comedy Phoenix Nights . Toby is joined on air by his producers Jamie Campbell, David Markwell and Natalie Clifford as well as sports presenter Jodie Fielder and Broadcast Assistant Ben Coates who make regular contributions to the show. Howard Pressman (brother of former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman ) presents the pre-lunch show with a range of music and lifestyle chat from 9.00am-12.00 noon. From 12 noon to 3.00pm, another local broadcasting icon, Rony Robinson , presents the daily phone-in show. Rony likes to get out and about, with regular outside broadcasts. He also hosts weekly consumer affairs features. The late afternoon show, from 3.00pm-7.00pm, is presented by Bob Ballard . Again his show is mainly a mix of music and chat with competitions and a regular feature looking back at the music and events of a certain year in history. Bob's show rounds up the important and quirky news stories of the day from 4 onwards. Bob's show is produced by Tom Green . During the football season the phone-in Football Heaven runs between 6.00pm and 7.00pm. This is co-presented by two members of the BBC Radio Sheffield sports team (usually Paul Walker, Seth Bennett or Andy Giddings). Later in the day there's a mix of programming. During the football season, there are often live commentaries on matches featuring Sheffield United , Sheffield Wednesday , Chesterfield , Doncaster Rovers or Rotherham United . Evening Programmes The evening schedule runs between 7.00pm and 10.00pm. On Monday Gerry Kersey looks back on 50s, 60s and 70s music. On Tuseday and Wendenday evenings, Seth Bennett presents a night of sport. On Thursday, 'Raw Talent' presented by Shamir Masri, showcases new music from unsigned bands in South Yorkshire and the North Midlands. On Friday night, Phil Butler presents a programme. After 10.00pm, Trisha Cooper presents a late night phone in that runs until 1.00am. Diana Luke presents the show on Fridays. Between 1.00am and 5.00am, BBC Radio Sheffield broadcasts BBC Radio Five Live . WEEKEND PROGRAMMES Saturday Programmes The morning starts with Howard Pressman presenting the morning show between 6.00am and 10.00am. Phil Butler then presents a show between 10.00am and 2.00pm. The main show on a Saturday is Football Heaven, usually from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, presented by members of the BBC Radio Sheffield sports team The original football phone-in, Praise or Grumble, is broadcast after Football Heaven. This provides a means for fans to praise or grumble about their local football teams following the day's matches. The evening show, Eastern Air, is presented by Waheed Akhtar. It includes lots of music and talk on the east. On FM , the late show is presented by veteren broadcaster Martin Kelner , whilst on AM , Mustaq Tufail presents a programme between 10.00pm and 11.00pm, which is followed by Shawkat Hashmi 's Late Night Classics. Sunday Programmes The first programme on a Sunday is John McPherson's Gospel Inspiration, presented by John McPherson and broadcast between 5.00am and 6.00am. The breakfast show on a Sunday, Dean Pepall's Sunday Breakfast, is presented by Dean Pepall Paulette Edwards presents the '''Nu Black''', a Sunday evening show about African Caribbean issues, with music.
