BBC Radio Leeds is the BBC Local Radio service for the English Metropolitan County of West Yorkshire .


FREQUENCIES


It broadcasts from its Studio s at St. Peters Square in Leeds on 92.4 ( Holme Moss ), 95.3 ( Luddenden , two miles west of Halifax & Wharfedale , two miles north of Otley ), 102.7 ( Keighley , on Rombalds Moor near Riddlesden ) 103.9 (Beecroft Hill, in Bramley near Leeds) FM , 774 ( New Farnley , near the A58 ) AM and DAB .


TRANSMITTERS


The strongest signal is on 92.4FM, from the Holme Moss transmitter, and covers most of West Yorkshire. Holme Moss also broadcasts Radio Manchester , Radio Sheffield and BBC DAB National . Beecroft Hill also has national television and radio. The Keighley transmitter also carries television and BBC DAB National. DAB signals have been transmitted since July 2001 from the EMAP Leeds 12D multiplex which uses transmitters at Morley ( Magic 828 's transmitter - owned by EMAP ) and the Hunter's Stones BT Microwave transmitter (north of Otley on the B6451, and central to the BT microwave network). There is the UTV EMAP Bradford, Huddersfield And Halifax 11B multiplex which has transmitted since October 2002 from Ainley Top (Huddersfield, near M62 Junction 24), Westgate Hill (east Bradford, near the A650/A651 junction) and Keighley. Emley Moor and a transmitter at Idle near Shipley have BBC DAB National.

In 2004 , BBC Radio Leeds became the second BBC local radio station in England, after BBC London 94.9 , to broadcast 24 hours a day. Along with the BBC Yorkshire 's television output, it moved, also in 2004, from the old studios on Woodhouse Lane to a new broadcasting centre in St Peter's Square, near the West Yorkshire Playhouse . It also has offices and studios at the National Media Museum in Bradford and smaller facilities Dean Clough in Halifax and Wakefield and Huddersfield town halls.

FORMER NETWORKED PROGRAMMES


One of the station's most successful shows was the ''. Her programme was filled by Russell Walker on BBC Radio Leeds, while the other BBC stations concentrated on their own programming.

Another popular presenter Martin Kelner who also broadcast a regular Friday & Saturday late show on the BBC Night Network recently left the BBC. It is thought that the Programme Controller wanted a more female freindly presenter in his slot. Martin now broadcasts on commercial Radio Station Real Radio .
